SEDSI President’s Message
Hello Southeast DSI Members and Friends,
SEDSI warmly welcomes you to the 52nd Annual Meeting (face to face) in Wilmington, NC, February 15-17, 2023.
I am really humbled and honored to start my term as SEDSI President officially this last February. I would like to share with you our accomplishments and successes in this period of time full of uncertainty. First of all, I would like to thank SEDSI Council Chairperson Jim Wynne and the SEDSI Council for their trust in me. It is my privilege to have served SEDSI as conference reviewer, session chair, track chair and other roles for many years before serving as the Program Chair for celebrating our SEDSI’s 50th Anniversary in 2020 with great success in Charleston, SC. Many thanks go to Jim Wynne, our Council Chair, and Cheryl Aasheim, our immediate Past President, and board members and Vice Presidents. They are great colleagues to work with. As the Program Chair and President-Elect, I have learned so much from Cheryl, then the President, and benefited significantly from advice from many Council and Board members and Vice Presidents in the organization. Thanks to Binshan Lin’s leadership, our SEDSI 51st Conference in Jacksonville, FL, was one of the largest conferences to date. In this first face-to-face conference since COVID-19, over 280 authors and co-authors submitted their research and presented their work at the conference, over 100 of them were first – time attendees at SEDSI, over 20 students participated in the student paper competitions, eleven college and school deans hosted special panels, twelve journal editors advised how to prepare journal submissions and go through review processes in multiple special panels. We sincerely appreciated the sponsorships of nine sponsors and exhibitors.
As the first DSI regional chapter, SEDSI has been a great successful platform for colleagues, friends and students to exchange their research, professional development, teaching and learning, Our recent face to face conferences of SEDSI 2020 in Charleston, SC and SEDSI 2022 in Jacksonville, FL, had drawn overwhelming interest and participation with 258 and 216 registered attendees and presenters, respectively. Many tracks, such as Analytics, Big Data Applications, Business Intelligence, Data Mining, Statistics and Expert Systems and Innovative Education, Assessment, Engaged Learning Curriculum, and Teaching and Pedagogy continually received record number of submissions. The Data, Analytics and Statistics Instruction (DASI) sessions led by Bob Andrews continued having the largest number of attendees. Our students’ paper competitions were well attended. The journal editors’ panels and deans’ panels had drawn increased interest and contributed significantly to the success of the conferences.
SEDSI is at a great moment moving forward. I am privileged and honored to be part of this wonderful organization.
Best Regards,
Ping Wang, SEDSI President
